A 3-in-1 desk for using a computer sitting, standing or lying down

The Lying Down Desk is a 3-in-1 desk which can be used sitting, standing or while lying down. It is adapted from a regular table and therefore a relatively cheap option for lying down computer use.

Why? The designer, Alex, has a chronic back condition which developed when he was a teenager. While surgery helped, it remains painful to sit for more than a short period of time. The only comfortable position was lying, and after wondering for awhile how he could use a computer while lying down, this is the result!

How? There is a downward-facing monitor installed underneath the table. To be at the right height, it is installed on the underside of a shelf placed on top of the table, with a hole cut in the original table top. A table is typically about 80cm high, but the monitor should be about 90cm from the floor so that it is 75cm from the user’s eyes. This is then plugged into a laptop (or desktop), and a keyboard and mouse (or other input device) is also plugged in to be used from the floor.
